Third District 2018 Fitbit Challenge

3D Sports and Recreation Director Andy Mathisen hopes you are up for the 2018 Fitbit Challenge!

It is once again time for New Year’s resolutions and generally the list includes the usual suspects – lose weight, exercise more. We want to try to help you meet that goal in some friendly competition! You can earn sports medals too if you don’t already have them. Who knows, maybe we will challenge the 3D Board, the International Board and other Districts.

Anyone interested in a Walking Contest in 2018 between our lodges in the Third District? Our District President and District Vice-President think their lodges are the best walkers! What do you think?

The Lodge that averages the most steps from January 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018 will have Bragging Rights and be mentioned at our 3D Convention in June ‘18. I will also award a pound of Starbucks Coffee and a Decretive Mug to the winning lodge. To determine an average, we will take the steps walked divided by the lodge member count on December 31, 2017.

The contest will be on the honor system. You will be asked to report your steps to your sports director each month. Your sports director will submit the results to me and I will share the results each month. If your lodge doesn’t have a sports director and you want to participate, just let us know who will be submitting the information.

Please let me know if you will participate! We hope you will!

Using a Fitbit or any other mobile device (including many smart phones) you have for tracking your steps is a great painless way to keep in shape in the New Year! You can also earn the Sons of Norway Sports Medals for walking at the same time.

You don’t have to buy a Fitbit to get out and walk. There are programs available on smartphones that you might want to check out too!
